Cadets enjoy summer adventure

Cadets from Monkstown found plenty to smile about recently as they tackled a camp packed with adventure, sport and camaraderie.

Colonel David Kane, Cadet Commandant 1st Battalion Army Cadet Force, said: “A fun-filled weekend away from home is not only a powerful attraction for teenagers, it’s also understandably popular with mums and dads and not just because they relish a quiet house occasionally. They are only too happy to see their kids abandon the computer screen in favour of some mind and body-stretching outdoor activities.

“They know that the kids will be in great company and will be professionally supervised and constantly encouraged to achieve more than they might ever have thought possible. Importantly, in these straitened times, the amazing activities which make up the cadet calendar are all either totally free or very low in cost. We even provide our members with free uniforms.”

Cadet detachments in Newtownabbey and across East Antrim are currently gearing up for their two-week summer camp breaks – trips which will take them on an amazing summer holiday adventure to England, building confidence as well as memories. On their return, they will be starting a new recruiting campaign, seeking new recruits for school and open detachments across Co Antrim.
