Cairncastle band members plan their annual parade

CAIRNCASTLE Flute Band members are hosting their annual band parade on Saturday, May 8.

The parade will start at 8.30pm from Narrow Gauge Road carpark and proceed along the following route - Narrow Gauge Road, Point Street, under the flyover bridge, Station Road, Circular Road, Glynn Road, High Street, Victoria Road, Agnew Street, Main St, Broadway and finishing on Point Street just before the junction of Narrow Gauge Road.

Parade marshals will be on duty to ensure the parade flows as smoothly as possible for everyone's enjoyement. A street collection will be held to raise money for the band's funds. A disco will be held in the No 1 Club after the parade.

This year trophies are being re-introduced to the parade and the results of the competion will be anounced at the disco.

The organisers would ask those attending the parade to comply with the local by-laws and not consume alcohol on the streets. The PSNI have stressed that the street drinking by-laws will be enforced and officers will also be working in conjunction with the band will be working to keep traffic disruption to a minimum and make the event enjoyable for everyone.

The public toilets at the Tourist Information Centre and Agnew Street will be open to the public during the duration of the pParade. Extra litter bins will be provided in the High Street, Narrow Gauge Road car park and Point Street areas by Larne Borough Council and everyone is encouraged to use these.

Prior to the main parade at 8.30pm, Sir Edward Carson True Blues Flute Band, Glenarm will be walking at 7.30pm before they head onto another engagement.

Cairncastle Flute Band members are holding a sponsored walk this weekend from Cairncastle to Larne and all sponsor sheets have the band stamp on them and all sponsor sheets will be handed back to the band on Saturday night.
