Matties Meeting House is helping to protect the local community against Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) by installing a lifesaving HeartSine Automated External defibrillator (AED).

The decision to purchase a defibrillator was made after the bar’s staff attended a first aid course, where they learned about the importance of CPR and the prompt use of defibrillators.

The devices can increase SCA survival rates by up to 75 per cent.

By placing the defibrillator in the bar, which is in a convenient location with long opening hours, residents in the surrounding area can now have peace of mind that an AED can be easily accessed in an emergency.

In order to raise money for the defibrillator, staff, customers and members of the local community held a fundraising weekend in September, 2014.

This included a night at the races, a coffee morning and a prize raffle. Local businesses and business people donated prizes to support the cause.
