Call for permanent cameras on notorious Frosses Road

Over this period, the Frosses has clocked among the top speeds recorded by police 15 times. This is despite more than 20 people losing their lives on the road in the past 20 years.

Following a record low last year, campaigners have expressed concern that in the first period of 2013, there has already been double the number of road deaths compared to the same period last year.

A total of 48 people lost their lives on NI’s roads last year, but already this year 21 people died in crashes.

Councillor Bill Kennedy who lives on the Frosses Road questioned the PSNI’s strategy of patrolling the road was effective enough.

“You see the police patrols, but it doesn’t seem to be working. I think that permanent cameras should be put in place. That would free up more police time and would hopfully see a lot more people prosecuted,” Cllr. Kennedy added.
