There's been a call for an investigation into what has been described as '˜Electoral Office incompetence'.

Ulster Unionist Councillor Glenn Barr said he was concerned about “the way people were unceremoniously dumped from the electoral register”.

“People who had voted in the previous elections found themselves dumped off the electoral register on election day; some even had been sent their polling card to vote,” he said.

“On election day my phone was red hot with many many people contacting myself to find out if they were on the register to vote; since many never received a polling card, thinking that as they had voted in previous elections they were still okay to vote.

“Unfortunately many had been struck off the register.

“The strange manner of this was that others living in the same house still had a vote. How come one member of a household was on the register and another dumped off it?

“Also, someone who was on the December’s edition of the Electoral Register had been dumped off it too.

“Another case was that a constituent had received their polling card, when they went to vote they too had been taken off the register.

“To make matters worse, I know of a number of occasions that voters’ vote had already been taken; their name had already been scored off the list.

“Serious questions need answering by the Electoral Office and how competent are they to deliver the democratic process.”

“I have written to the Electoral Office calling for a full investigation.”
