Alerting constituents to the recently imposed 7.5 tonne weight restriction, she said it was regularly used by heavy vehicles which are now having to seek an alternative route.

“I have been in contact with Transport NI locally, and have also questioned Roads Minister Michelle McIlveen as to the reasons behind this weight restriction, and on plans to improve the structure to enable heavy vehicles to resume travelling on this road,” said Mrs Overend.

“It is important the work takes places as soon as possible to either repair or replace this bridge, in order to minimise the disruption to the road users who rely on this stretch of road for convenient access to business premises and agricultural land, and I will continue to lobby the Minister and her successor to ensure this takes place.”

She added that she has contacted Transport NI about damage to warning signage at the bridge.
