Call for review of Enterprise decision

Mr Givan was speaking after Translink revealed that the Dublin-bound train would no longer be stopping at Lisburn Train Station from Monday-Saturday.

A spokesperson for the company also stated: “Passenger analysis shows that average passenger numbers alighting or disembarking the Enterprise at Lisburn are in single figures.”

Mr Givan has called for a review of the decision to axe the Lisburn stops. “This is a retrograde step that should not have happened,” he said. “Instead of reducing services, Translink should have asked for help to promote Lisburn as a destination on this route.

“The irony on Translink launching a billboard advertising campaign for the Enterprise Service in the same week it has withdrawn Lisburn as a stop will not be lost on the people of Lisburn. If this campaign had been launched before the decision was taken it may have demonstrated a need existed and the service retained.

“When Translink announced its first proposal to increase the number of stops in Lisburn the local community recognised this would allow them to use the train more often and I have no doubt it would have been popular but instead people I have been speaking with are disappointed and fail to understand the decision taken by Translink.”
