Call for traffic calming measures at Clady village
Sinn Fein Carntogher Councillor Sean McPeake has requested that Roads Service initiate speed control and traffic calming measures for Clady village in the vicinity of the local primary and secondary schools. Councillor McPeake said: “For some time now I have been contacted by a number of parents of schoolchildren attending the local primary and secondary schools voicing their concern about the speed of traffic passing the schools, particularly at those times where children are entering or leaving the school premises.
“The schools are situated on a straight stretch of roadway in which, unfortunately passing motorists do not always adhere to the speed limits within the village. On foot of the requests from parents I have met with Roads Service officials and requested that they put in place traffic calming and speed control measures in the vicinity of both these busy schools before a serious accident occurs.
“As an interim step I have requested that Roads Service consider installing flashing warning signs in the vicinity of the schools which would warn motorists of the dangers associated with vehicles and children in the area.”
