Call for traffic wardens in Dungiven

TRAFFIC wardens need to be posted in Dungiven at least a couple of days a week to improve parking and traffic flow, a councillor has said.

SDLP Councillor Mickey Coyle says more needs to be done to stop illegal parking and improve traffic congestion caused by motorists parking carelessly in the Limavady Borough town.

Councillor Coyle said: "This has been an issue over the years and is getting quite serious. There are continuous cases of people parking in accessible parking pays as well as traffic hold ups in the town caused by those parking on double yellow lines.

"I have even had complaints about people parking on footpaths. I have asked before for a part-time warden to operate in the area a few days a week but I have encountered opposition regarding this. We don't need them there all the time but I believe a warden's presence would greatly improve traffic and parking in the area."
