Call for volunteers at Banbridge Hockey Club

Banbridge Hockey Club will be proudly hosting Round 1 of the prestigious European Hockey League (EHL) competition between October 7 and 9 this year.

This is a significant international competition and the Club are seeking volunteers to assist across the three days which will see eleven teams coming to Northern Ireland from across Europe accompanied by their supporters.

Ulster Unionist representatives Jo-Anne Dobson MLA and Cllr Glenn Barr joined Club Vice President Sheree Totten at Havelock Park recently to lend their support to the club ahead of the competition.

“This is a terrific coup for Banbridge Hockey Club Committee and its members as they will be hosting the largest hockey event next to the Olympics,” said Mrs Dobson. “Banbridge have top class grounds and I know that they have the preparations already in full swing. In total there will be twenty Olympians playing during the weekend for various clubs including Eugene Magee from Banbridge. This gives us a flavour of just how prestigious this competition will be for our town and indeed for Northern Ireland.

“Given the fantastic boost which the competition will bring to our local economy we are exploring a number of channels to seek additional support for the event, but people can lend a hand by volunteering across the weekend and I know that the club would welcome any support. I commend the Hockey Club for their continued vision in hosting events of both regional and international importance and encourage people to support the Club in the weeks and months ahead in the build up to October.”
