Call intoyour locallibrary forthe heritage

Libraries NI is inviting members of the public to call in to a programme of free events being held in libraries across Northern Ireland to celebrate European Heritage Open Days (EHOD).

This is the 18th year that Northern Ireland has joined forces with the rest of Europe to celebrate European Heritage Open Days, which promote interest in historic and modern buildings including many libraries across Northern Ireland.

Over 300 events and properties are opening to the public, many for free, during the weekend of Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September 2015, to encourage people of all ages to discover Northern Ireland’s rich and diverse architecture and heritage.

This ever-popular celebration weekend of our rich and varied historic environment is organised by the Department of the Environment (Northern Ireland) and attracted a record 75,000 visitors last year.

The main theme for EHOD 2015 is Industrial Heritage, of which we have over 16,000 features in Northern Ireland. Members of the public will be able to delve into the past at library events focusing on the digital film and unique photograph archives and local history resources available in Northern Ireland libraries.

The range of events includes talks, exhibitions, digital film presentations.
