Call Time On Yobs - Frew

ANTI-SOCIAL behaviour at Dunfane Playing fields is leading to serious criminal damage in the area, according to local MLA Paul Frew.

Cllr. Frew was responding to an answer given by the PSNI at last Thursday night's DPP meeting, after he had submitted his concerns regarding serious criminal damage in the area.

The police response indicated that Neighbourhood officers had spoken to the council about improving fencing around the area.

Speaking at the meeting, he said: "There seems to be a lot of complaints, I was speaking to a resident today (Thursday) and they were telling me the situation is very serious.

"We are not just talking about youths but groups of up to 30 people, some in their early 20s. "They throw and smash bottles on people's property and urinate up against walls."

Area Commander Ryan Henderson said: "A Neighbourhood Watch Scheme can be useful because it shows that those involved in the scheme are a bigger and stronger group than those being a problem."

Paul added: "A Neighbourhood Watch Scheme is fine but I don't know how it can eradicate this problem. There must be something that can be done."

Pete Bouma of Ballymena Neighboured Policing Team said: "When we heard they were gathering again we deployed again.

"If people see them and ring in then we can get a picture of when these people might be there and from that we can create a planned response."
