Call to tackle fly-tipping

A Carrick councillor has called for the local authority to adopt more stringent measures in order to tackle the issue of fly-tipping in the borough.

Cllr Charlie Johnston made the comments at Monday nights meeting of the Environmental Services Committee, with members informed that 15 incidents of illegal dumping had been reported in December.

The report also noted that most of the incidents involved the dumping of household items and did not provide any way of identifying the perpetrators.

“The problem of fly-tipping is getting much worse, particularly in areas like Love Lane and Beltoy Road,” Cllr Johnston said.

“Action needs to be taken; are we scared to go forward with prosecutions for this?”
