Calling all schools - take part in National Schools Film week

LOCAL schools are being invited to take part in National Schools Film Week.

The event, will take place from October 15 to October 26.

The festival aims to support classroom teaching by providing schools with a powerful experience for their students that links directly to elements of the curriculum – supported by an on-line library of resources related to individual films.

Teachers can book tickets on-line at www.nationalschoolsfilmweek.org

The Movie House in Coleraine will be taking part. Screenings will take place on Wednesday, October 24 and Thursday October 25. Films to be screened will be ‘Dr Seuss’, ‘Brave’ and ‘Hugo’.

Ballysally Primary School took part in the initiative last year.

Linda Lewis, Head of Special Needs at the school said: “ It’s a chance for the children to enhance their learning through film and an opportunity to have a shared experience with their peers and with children from other schools.

“We download the Film Education resources and worksheets and used them in class.”

Nick Walker, Festival Director added: “ The Festival seeks to create a greater awareness and understanding of cinema based on the concept of relationships and dialogues in a variety of films, address issues of cultural exchange and raise awareness amongst teaching professionals of the use of film across the school curriculum.

“This is achieved by in-cinema talks and on-line resources, which give teachers the tools to encourage students to explore and understand new cinematic worlds.”
