Calling Kilfennan: Helen Mirren's life-saving hero

Alan ‘Al’ Moore, a policeman with the Met trained in life-saving cardiopulmonary resuscitation, stepped in when Dame Helen’s close friend took a heart attack at the premiere of her film, The Debt, in London back in 2012.

When Mr Moore heard a life-saving defibrillator at the Eurospar shop at Church Meadows on the Rossdowney Road had been damaged during the vandalism incident, he actually got in touch personally.

The store’s proprietors said they were really grateful at the personal touch.

In a Facebook post the store’s management said the support they received in the wake of the vandalism was fantastic from right across the community.

“We are overwhelmed by the kind thoughts and support that we have received regarding the defibrillator incident.

“We received many offers in ways to re-raise the money which has been incredible,” they stated.

They hadn’t expected the special call from London and were chuffed to receive it.

“We however did receive one phone call from a person in London, he was a trained paramedic on duty at a Dame Helen Mirren premiere, a very close friend of Helens suffered a cardiac arrest and he provided CPR and used defibrillator to bring the person back to life.

“This alone is an incredible act of kindness, never mind contacting our store and donating the replacement for our local community!

“We would like to thank Al Moore on behalf of all the community.”
