Calls for action to tackle anti-social behaviour in Harryville

A local councillor has backed calls for action to be taken to address anti-social behaviour in Harryville.

TUV Alderman Alderman Stewart McDonald, along with the party’s Vice Chairman Richard Cairns, today met withe political and community representatives in Harryville to address the problem of anti-social behaviour.

“I have been contacted by numerous residents who have told me about a growing trend of anti-social behaviour in the Harryville area,” Ald. McDonald said.

He added: “This type of behaviour is unacceptable and it appears to be coming from young teenagers of school age.

“I am encouraged by the willingness of local community activists to put their heads together in an attempt to find a way forward.”

Ald. McDonald said everyone has a part to play in solving the problem, adding that it is “crucial” parents know where there children are in the evenings and at the weekend.

“No one wants a young person to enter adult life with a criminal conviction, therefore it is important to address it early. That is what we will all be working towards,” Ald. McDonald said.

He added: “I would like to thank Harryville Partnership for facilitating this meeting, and for all those who attended for their input.

“It is time to get working hard on the ground to tackle this scourge.”
