Campbell only interested in self promotion: Ross

THE TUV's candidate in the East Londonderry election, William Ross has described a "self promotion leaflet" by sitting MP Gregory Campell as an undisguised attempt to win votes.

He claimed the DUP man had used a parliamentary communication allowance last year to produce the leaflet in the run up to polling day.

“I simply do not think this is an appropriate use of public money,” said Mr Ross.

“It is worthwhile pointing out that Mr. Campbell and his MLA colleagues in East Londonderry claimed 158,000 for office expenses last year.

“Mr Campbell also had his substantial office expenses from his second job in the House of Commons and a 10,000 allowance for communicating with constituents. It is little wonder the DUP can afford such methods of communication and such plush offices - they are all provided at the taxpayers’ expense.

“When I am elected I pledge to provide a network of advice centres for the people of East Londonderry. Such offices will not be outfitted with executive desks and fancy staplers.

“My focus will be on dealing with the real issues facing my constituents, such as the lack of promised investment, the recent job losses and the erratic housing market we have experienced since Mr Campbell was re-elected.

“To deliver on these issues will be my priority.”
