Campbell raised Irish Government and arming of IRA

EAST Londonderry DUP MP Gregory Campbell last week asked the Prime Minister David Cameron if he was seeking an apology from the Irish Government for any part played by the Republic of Ireland in the arming and financing of the Provisional IRA.

The Londonderry-based MP raised the matter in the House of Commons.

The Prime Minister replied that the Irish Government was answerable for its own actions.

Addressing the House the Prime Minister replied: “It is for each state to account for its own actions. I and the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, my right honourable Friend the Member for North Shropshire (Mr Paterson), continue to discuss with our Irish counterparts what positive role our Governments can play in dealing with Northern Ireland’s troubled past.”
