Campbell says Highmoor bomb find follows Carnfunnock and Capanagh pattern

DUP MP Gregory Campbell says the discovery of two bombs in the Highmoor area outside Londonderry follows the pattern of terrorist hides being uncovered at Capanagh and Carnfunnock near Larne over recent months.

He said there appears to be a worrying trend of violent dissident republicans storing explosives in quiet rural areas where there is no obvious rear base for them to operate from.

“There appears to be a pattern emerging, as over the past few months a number of explosive finds have been uncovered in rural areas across Northern Ireland which might not be thought of as likely locations for terrorists to operate in,” he said.

“Highmoor Road in Londonderry is a quiet spot just outside the City and this type of activity is deplorable and puts innocent families at risk.

“Thankfully the devices were uncovered, there is a need for continuing vigilance by the entire community to prevent further such incidents in the future.”
