Cancer support meeting at hospital

The support group aims to help patients develop a holistic approach to living with cancer and is complementary to any ongoing medical treatment. Occupational therapist Samantha Managh, who works with cancer patients at the hospital, will talk about managing fatigue. Mary Hawthorne, cancer information nurse, Cancer Focus, will facilitate the meeting.

Deirdre Conlon, care services manager, Cancer Focus, said, “The support group is open to anyone, no matter what kind of cancer they have, as well as carers, family and friends and we extend a very warm welcome to all new members. There is no commitment to attend each session and everyone is welcome to come as often and for as long as they wish.

“The support group meetings are informal and there is no pressure to speak about your experiences; you can just come along and listen to what is being said. Patients in the past have gained a lot from talking to people who are in, or have been in, a similar situation as this can help to reduce feelings of anxiety, fear and isolation and improve quality of life.”
