Malcolm McKeown, Parkmore, Craigavon, was fined £350 last Wednesday at Craigavon Magistrates Court for possession of cannabis resin on January 1 this year.

He was also ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The court heard that at 3.05am police saw him sitting in a car and throw a cigarette in his lap. A small amount of cannabis resin was found in a wooden box.

McKeown admitted it was for his own personal use.

Mr Gabriel Ingram, representing the defendant, said McKeown had a previous conviction and a caution.

He added that the defendant was building up a record for this sort of offence.

The cannabis was purely for recreational use, said Mr Ingram.

District Judge, Mr Mervyn Bates, told McKeown this was his last chance to be dealt with by a financial penalty.

He added that if he continued offending the court would be looking at other disposals.
