Police noticed the smell of cannabis in the car and when it was searched lump of cannabis was found in a box in the footwell. Duffy admitted it belonged to him and also produced a cannabis joint and handed it over.

A solicitor for Duffy said he was experimenting with the drug at this time and was not a regular user.

District Judge, Mr Paul Copeland, said Duffy had already acquired a disturbing record for someone of 19 years of age.

He added that there were various offences which could be described as street crime.

They included possession of an offensive weapon, disorderly behaviour and fighting and now Duffy was dabbling in drugs, said Judge Copeland.
