Car had defective tyres

When police inspected a car driven by a Gilford man they found the test certificate had expired and three of the tyres were defective.

Christopher Potts (19), Pine View, Gilford, was fined £100 last Thursday at Banbridge Magistrates Court for not having a vehicle test certificate on December 16.

For each of three charges of having a defective tyre he was fined £50. He was also given three penalty points and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The court heard that at 1.10am police saw a car being driven slowly along the Gilford to Waringstown road in the direction of Gilford.

It drove into Hall’s Mill Green, Laurencetown, and police spoke to the defendant who was the driver.

They noticed that the vehicle test certificate had expired two weeks previously.

There was insufficient tread on the front offside, rear offside and rear nearside tyres.

A solicitor for Potts said he now had a test certificate and the tyres had been changed.
