'Car seller' was uninsured

AN unemployed tradesman from Rasharkin said he was taking a car - which he claimed he and a friend bought to sell on - to a prospective buyer when detected on the road without insurance or a driving licence.

Robert McClure (57), of Church Meadow, committed the offences on September 3 last year at Finvoy Road, Ballymoney.

At North Antrim Magistrates Court in Coleraine on Wednesday of last week he was banned from driving for six months and fined a total of 250.

When stopped driving a Mazda car by police he said his friend had trade insurance and he thought he himself was covered.

A defence solicitor said his client was out of work and the car was bought to sell on.

The court heard McClure “never had a licence” and when asked by District Judge Richard Wilson if that impacted on his work as a joiner the defendant told him he was “mostly transported by the firm”.
