Car stolen after driver assaulted

Police are appealing for information following the theft of a vehicle in the Hightown Road area of Glengormley during the early hours of Sunday, August 24.

At around 12.25am it was reported that a man, aged in his 40’s, was driving his Ford Focus car along the Hightown Road. He stopped with a young man who appeared to be staggering about the road.

When he got out of his car the young male kicked him and hit him on the arm with a bottle. Three further males then appeared and they all made off in the car.

The driver was not seriously injured as a result of the assault. The car was found burnt out a short time later in a car park on the Park Road in Mallusk. One of the males is described as being approximately 18-22 year old, wearing a light blue t-shirt, track bottoms and a dark blue baseball cap.

Sergeant Ash of Newtownabbey Police said: “Police would ask anyone who may have witnessed the incident or anyone with any information to contact them at Newtownabbey on the non emergency number 101.”
