Cara McShane praises response to Rathlin fire
BALLYCASTLE Sinn Féin councillor, Cara McShane, has praised the response of the emergency services in tackling the recent widespread gorse fires on Rathlin Island.
“I would also like to acknowledge the efforts of people on the island who assisted in whatever way possible. The community has been involved for several months in preparing for the Rathlin Maritime Festival, along with Ballycastle Community Development Group.
“Amidst the Maritime activities and preparations for the weekend’s events, the Rathlin Development and Community Association and the island’s residents still ensured that they provided assistance in tackling this extensive blaze which started in an area known to be home to nesting birds. It is with great relief that no one was injured in this fire.”
