Carers’ support at Sainsbury’s

The initiative is part of the retailer’s partnership with Carers UK, which began in December 2010.

During Carers Week this year, the charity are aiming to reach out to the thousands of carers missing out on support and services in the UK.

Between June 13-15, over 1000 Sainsbury’s stores will be hosting carers awareness sessions to inform customers on the services available in their community.

One of the groups involved is Carers NI, who will be visiting Sainsbury’s Carrickfergus branch tomorrow (Friday).

Carers NI provides a range of support services, including expert advice and information to carers and professionals dealing with a range of issues such as carers’ benefits, community care and services for carers.

They connect with carers so no-one has to care alone and campaign together for lasting change.

Lyn Campbell, information and development officer, will be at the store on Friday from 2pm. She said: “Carers Week gives us the chance to tell the wider community about our work and we’d like to encourage anyone who knows a carer or is a carer themselves and needs support to come along and see us on Friday.”

Sainsbury’s store manager Bea Cox, added: “Carers play such an important part in our community and we’re proud to be working with Carers UK to help highlight the support that’s available in the Carrickfergus area.”
