Carey Faughs charity event

A few months ago local sheep clipper and Carey Faughs GAA club member Fionan Butler decided to run a fundraiser with a difference in Carey Hall with the proceeds being split between the club and the Alzheimer’s Society.

Fionan gathered together a number of sheep clippers, some from as far away as County Down, and ran a Speed Sheer night in the hall with the men on stage clipping sheep and the winner being the man that clipped the sheep in the fastest time.

The overall winner was Ian Montgomery from Glenweary who clipped a sheep in an amazing 26.32 seconds! Fionan himself clipped a sheep in just over 30 seconds.

Last June, Brendan, his family, friends and the Carey Faughs Senior Hurling Team took part in a sponsored walk from Cushendun to Ballyvoy and raised a total of £10,200 for Alzheimer’s.

Brendan is hoping to make this an annual event with the walk taking place again this year on Saturday 20th June. Anyone wanting to take part in this year walk please contact Brendan for sponsor sheets.

There are 800,000 people in the United Kingdom with some form of dementia with numbers set to rise to one million by 2021.
