Carnlough play park delay ‘disappointing’

The planned facility in the Croft Road area of the village has been an ambition of the local community for the past six years.

Dungannon-based firm McGuigan Construction Ltd commenced work on the site in April.

But due to investigations during initial site works, the council has now decided to suspend construction.

A spokesperson for MEA Council said the decision was taken “to ensure inspections are carried out and any remedial works completed, and costings recalculated”.

Mid and East Antrim Councillor James McKeown told the Times he was “disappointed” that the park will not be open in time for summer.

“Children in the Croft area have been crying out for play facilities for years, so for the project to get so close to completion only to be held up is unfortunate,” the Sinn Fein man added.

“However, safety must always take priority and it is important that the project is done right.”

The park is due to be completed by the autumn.
