Rachael Creighton of Crossroads Care gave a presentation on the range of services provided by her organisation as guest speaker at Carrickfergus Rotary Club.

As well as the domiciliary support, she focused particularly on two major projects. First, ‘Care for Young Carers’ which recognizes the valuable contribution made by young people who take on the onerous and often isolating task of caring for a sick or disabled parent or sibling in the home. Crossroads Care organises events and activities where these young people can meet together to share experiences, relax and socialise.

Secondly, Rachel explained, the ‘In Your Prime’ project tackles loneliness and social isolation among the elderly by providing a befriending service, a telephone support service and organising social and intergenerational activities. She emphasised the importance of the army of trained Crossroads Care volunteers in facilitating these valuable services.

Rotarian Derek Coles thanked Rachael on behalf of the club, congratulated her on an excellent presentation and on providing such a valuable service to the community.
