Carrick-born author pens genealogy book

A new book helping readers to research their family history, penned by a former native of the borough, is now available to buy online.

A Beginner’s Guide to British and Irish Genealogy is the latest release by Carrick-born Chris Paton.

Chris, who grew up in the town before moving to Scotland, has published several books on genealogy, along with 2013’s ‘The Mount Stewart Murder’, which tells the story of Scotland’s oldest unsolved murder case.

A researcher and lecturer, his series of family history guide books are sold worldwide.

“My latest book does exactly what it says on the tin: it provides an introduction to researching family history across the British Isles,” he added.

“In the near future it should be available in print format in the UK, but it is already available as an ebook.”

The cover image of the publication even features one of Carrick’s iconic landmarks, the St Nicholas’ Church tower.

“Other Irish books I have written include Discover Irish Land Records, which includes a great many record examples from some of my family lines in Islandmagee and Larne, and also Irish Family History Resources Online,” he added.
