Cadet Martin Mullan of 2062 (Carrickfergus) Squadron Air Training Corps has just returned from a once in a lifetime opportunity on the sunny Mediterranean isle.

He was selected from a UK-wide pool of cadets to attend the Royal Air Forces Association Cyprus Award camp to RAF Akrotiri.

The week-long expedition to Cyprus included a variety of activities such as section visits, going to numerous local attractions and spending time with United Nations peacekeeping troops based on the island.

Speaking after the trip, Martin said: “When I found out that I had been selected to go to Cyprus I was overjoyed.

“I never expected to receive this, it was fantastic surprise. During the week I learned about life on an overseas RAF base and had the opportunity to experience a range of military activities.

“I also got to learn a lot about Cyprus including its history and recent conflict. RAFA Youth had a great range of activities for us during the week, including go-karting and sports.

“I also got to meet many new friends from right across the UK. This was a wonderful opportunity and I am very grateful to RAFA.”
