Carrick dementia information event

Alzheimer's Society in Carrick will be holding an information and lunch event at The Open Door, Bridewell Drive, Sunnylands, on May 17.

Charity staff and volunteers will be hosting this event to encourage local people to tackle dementia by volunteering, donating or campaigning for change.

It will run alongside the new One Step at a Time, carers’ group, from 11.30am-3.00pm, in The Open Door Centre.

Support and information on dementia will be available along with a light lunch.

This year, Alzheimer’s Society is asking people to come together to unite against dementia, forgetting their differences to help urgently find a cure, improve care, and offer help and understanding during Dementia Awareness Week.

Lesley Killen, Dementia Support Worker for Alzheimer’s Society in East Antrim said:“We’re calling on people in Carrick to show their support at The Open Door this Dementia Awareness Week.

“Dementia doesn’t care who you are; it could affect us all. It’s set to be the 21st century’s biggest killer, with someone developing it every three minutes, and so many people are facing it alone.

People with dementia often feel – and are – misunderstood, marginalised and isolated but with the right support and understanding they can continue to live fulfilling lives and make a contribution to their communities. So, unite with us now and join us on May 17. Over 1800 people are living with dementia in East Antrim. Alzheimer’s Society is here for anyone affected by dementia.
