Sixteen members of the church’s Youth Group are taking part in the visit from August 9-19.

Group leader Vikki Ferran said: “We will be serving in the communities of Tamasa, Cluj and Sutor supporting local residents. In the mornings we will be running a kids programme and providing a community meal.

“The afternoons will involve practical work and visiting some of the poorest families in the community, bringing a food parcel and spending time with them learning about their family.

“The young people, who are aged between 16-25, will have an opportunity to share their faith with the community and get to experience life in Romania.

“We are going with a well-known organisation called ‘Exodus’ who send out numerous groups of young people to work with communities all over the world.”

“We’ll be working with children and with older people in the community.”

Ahead of the visit, a ‘refresh’ sale will be held at Elim Church this Saturday, June 20 between 10.00am and 1.00pm.

The event will feature new and nearly new clothing, jewellery and household items, while the cafe will be open for refreshments. Admission is free.

The group will also be running a football tournament on July 4 from 12-3pm at Carrick Rangers 3G pitch.

“We would love to say a big thank you to our church members and others that have helped us fundraise so far,” Vikki added.
