Carrick Grammar students achieve 100 percent pass rate

This year’s crop of results puts the local school above the Northern Ireland grammar school average for ensuring that pupils attain an A Level qualification, said principal Kieran Mulvenna.

“In the upper grade range of A*-C we have also maintained last year’s improved performance,” Mr Mulvenna added.

“Congratulations go to Jack Entwhistle and Craig Smylie, both of whom achieved top A* grades in Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics. Jack now looks forward to studying Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge alongside the brightest and best in the UK.

“We are delighted too for Molly Baird, Jack Carton, Courtney Gibb, Naomi Goodchild, Ellen McNally, Amy McNeill, Sara Patterson, Christian Robinson, Chloe Ross, Adam Urquhart, Adam Woodside and Ryan Yeung who between them amassed a staggering 15 A* grades and 21 A grades.”

The school also saw an impressive performance in A Level Mathematics, with nine A* grades and five grade As, whilst those studying highly specialised Further Mathematics all attained grade A or A*.

Also ranked amongst outstanding subjects this year were Design and Technology, Business Studies, Government and Politics, Religious Studies, French, Music, Art and Photography. “No pupil in any of these subjects attained less than a C grade,” said Mr Mulvenna.

“It is also delightful to see that Carrickfergus Learning Community, the collaboration between the four post-primary schools in Carrickfergus, continues to reap benefits for all of our young people with 100 percent of Carrickfergus Grammar’s pupils attaining success in the broad range of subjects available to them through the borough.

“Our AS grades bode well for continued success next year, with Year 13 students Sophie Bell, Sam Brodison, Sophie Grier, Sophia Livie, Andrew Newbold and Aaron Stevenson all achieving four top grades in this summer’s results.

“Not far behind with a minimum of three top grades are Christopher Beck, Connor Chambers, Nathan Fugard, Rachel Hall, Phillip McCullough, and Victoria Porter all of whom achieved three top grades. Well done to these stars of the future too.”

Meanwhile, the school is due to host a photocall for its high achievers tomorrow.
