Alliance Party MLA Stewart Dickson said: “There can never be any excuse for people taking the law into their own hands. Those behind this attack must face the full force of the law. Local people have had enough and do not want to see it.”

East Antrim Sinn Féin representative Oliver McMullan added: “This shooting was wrong and I condemn it. There can be no place for guns and incidents like this in our society.

“Anyone with information on this attack should bring it forward to the PSNI.”

Chief Inspector Rosemary Thompson is appealing to anyone who was in the area of Dunluskin Gardens and may have witnessed this incident to contact Detectives at Reactive and Organised Crime, Larne, quoting reference number 889 29/06/16.

Alternatively, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.
