Carrick '˜pirates' give children's charity a funding boost

Young swashbucklers in Carrickfergus have been thanked for helping to raise £1,400 for Barnardo's NI.

Acorn Nursery and Playgroup, Jolly Tots and Minor Miracles Nurseries took part in a fun-filled pirate themed Big Toddle in aid of the children’s charity last summer.

Children dressed up as pirates and donned eye patches to complete a half-mile toddle in order to raise money to support Barnardo’s work.

Lynda Wilson, director Barnardo’s NI, said: “A massive thank you to everyone from Acorn Nursery and Playgroup, Jolly Tots Private Day Nursery and Minor Miracles Nursery in Carrickfergus who took part in last year’s Big Toddle. The money raised goes directly to our work with children and young people locally and really helps make a difference to their lives.”

“Since the Big Toddle started in 1997 it has raised more than £14m across the UK for Barnardo’s and as this year is Barnardo’s 150th anniversary we’re hoping even more toddlers and their families will support us in a series of animal-themed Big Toddles.”
