Carrick pupils get glimpse of '˜Troubles'

Year 11 GCSE history students from Carrickfergus Grammar School attended a conference organised by the Ulster Museum which focused on 1968 and the '˜The Year the Troubles began'.

Pupils listened to testimonies of individuals who participated in the Northern Ireland Civil Rights Association marches of 1968 and had the opportunity to ask them questions about their actions and memories.

Pupils also toured the new “Troubles” exhibition at the museum.

The school said: “As we remember the 50th anniversary of the beginning of the Troubles in Northern Ireland, it was a great experience for pupils to connect with people who had participated firsthand.”
