Carrick singers in worship broadcast

Earlier this month, the talented young singers took part in BBC Radio Four’s ‘Morning Worship’ which was also broadcast as ‘Sunday Worship’ on BBC Radio Ulster. 

With the theme of ‘Inside Doubt’ and a nod in the direction of Saint Patrick, the North Road choir led the singing in three rousing hymns with Stephen Hamill on organ and Sam Brodison on cornet. 

Year 11 pupil Chris Hogg led one of the prayers and the choir also sang three anthems in a recording at Fortwilliam Presbyterian Church. 

It is a busy period for the Grammar singers as they fly to Prague at the end of the month to take part in the International Youth Music Festival.

Recently, they got to work with Stuart Barr, who last year was conducting at the Oscars. He flew in from London where he works as vocal coach and musical director to the stars of the West End, Royal Academy of Music and Dame Shirley Bassey.  He has also served as President of the British Voice Association. 

Stuart put both the Junior and Senior Choirs through their paces before working with the adult choir, Grosvenor, in the evening also directed by Edward Craig, head of music at the school. 

“We have met Mr Barr several times over the years through competition and it was an honour to have him take a big enough interest in the choirs to come over to spend a day with us.  Singers of all ages, abilities, interests and experiences benefitted from the exercises and approach to their repertoire and now it is our challenge to continue the good habits he was striving to instil in us all.” said Mr Craig.
