Carrick support sought for balloon release

CARRICK woman Eleanor Ellerslie is urging local support for a special charity event at Belfast Castle this weekend.

Eleanor, whose baby son Adam died at just 30-days-old five years ago, is inviting people to come along to the Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness balloon release being organised by Life After Loss. This event offers bereaved parents the opportunity to have the loss of their baby recognised and remembered in a very special way.

“It's a lovely day for those who have suffered a loss,” Eleanor explained. “Watching the balloons disappear into the distance is very poignant.

“Last year I found it very touching that a lot of older ladies came along. They had never been allowed to grieve for the babies they had lost."

The balloon release, which takes place on Sunday at 3pm, is being held as part of Babyloss Awareness Week (October 9-15).

Life After Loss was founded in 2006 when a group of bereaved mothers who met online decided to set up an internet support forum. The organisation was granted charitable status in 2007, and is now branching out into offering support meetings, memorial events and a number of other projects.
