Visitors came face to face with troops and witnessed the castle under siege followed by a parade to meet King William.

The Siege of Carrickfergus took place in 1689 when a force of Williamite troops under Marshal Schomberg landed and laid siege to the Jacobite garrison. Carrick is also the place where Schomberg’s leader, King William III first set foot in Ireland in 1690.
