It was part of an awareness-raising session with Key Stage 2 children on what is currently happening in Europe, leading to the formation of campaign teams, hustings and a vote.

On Wednesday, June 8 all KS2 pupils met in the school assembly hall for a EU Referendum debate before polling stations opened.

Primary 5 teacher John Catterson reported: “Voting closed after lunchtime, and the ballot box was removed to a neutral venue, where a team of counters began the process of ordering, grouping and counting votes. The results were submitted and clarified, before being announced by the chief electoral officers on Friday morning.

“In total, 212 valid votes were cast, with 136 pupils voting in favour of the United Kingdom leaving the European Union and the remaining 76 voting in favour of remaining.”
