Carrickfergus Rotary hosts Youth Leadership challenge

Young people in Carrickfergus have been putting their leadership skills to the test.

A large number of high calibre candidates were drawn from Carrickfergus Grammar, Downshire School and Ulidia Integrated College for the annual Rotary Youth Leadership competition.

Following a selection procedure at school level, Emma Cooper, Carrickfergus Grammar, Amanda McCune, Downshire and Katherine Kelly, Ulidia, competed for a place in the area final with Emma progressing.

Kelli Bagchus, of Carrickfergus Enterprise, a member of the judging panel, commented on the high quality of all the participants.

Rotarian Jim Dunlop, Youth Activities chairman for Carrickfergus Rotary Club, congratulated all of the participants on their performance and wished Emma well in the area final in Cookstown.

At stake is an opportunity to participate in leadership seminars, visit Stormont, the Dail, meet a cross-section of MLAs and TDs and then travel to Strasbourg in February to represent Rotary Ireland at Euroschola (the European Youth Parliament).
