Carrickfergus Tree of Hope helping good causes

For the eighth year in succession the Rotarians have a ‘Tree of Hope’ at the Tesco store at Minorca.

Rotarian Sam Crowe first spearheaded this initiative in 2009 and thanks to the retailer’s management and Anne Ritchie, their Community Champion, it has continued annually since then.

Members of the public make a donation in support of the named charities. This purchases a ribbon which is tied on the tree.

This year, the money raised from the festive effort will support Action Cancer, Children’s Hospice and Diabetes research.

Jim Dunlop, president of Carrickfergus Rotary Club, expressed his appreciation to Tesco for facilitating the venture.

He went on to thank “all those who have joined the Carrickfergus Rotarians to help with collecting at the tree including members of Carrickfergus Action Cancer and Children’s Hospice support groups, members of Ulidia and Downshire Interact Clubs and volunteers from Joymount church”.

The club president also expressed gratitude “for the generosity of the shoppers who, over the past seven years have contributed a total of £80,000 at Carrickfergus Rotary Club’s Tree of Hope for the benefit of local charities”.
