He was speaking when he welcomed representatives from Action Cancer and the Carrickfergus support group for Children’s Hospice to a club meeting to receive donations from the money raised.

Both of the recipients expressed gratitude to the Rotarians and gave a brief insight into how the money would be used for the benefit of others.

The club president thanked all those who helped collect over the two-week period and he reserved a special word of gratitude for the generosity of shoppers.

Carrickfergus Rotary Club’s Tree of Hope had operated at Tesco’s store since Christmas 2009 and in that time has raised just short of £90,000 for local charities.
