Carrick’s ‘delight’ at royal baby news

CARRICKFERGUS Borough Council has offered its congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on the announcement that they are expecting their first child.

The news was revealed by St James’ Palace on Monday that the royal couple, who became Baron and Baroness Carrickfergus on their wedding day, are to become parents.

The local authority previously wrote to the couple to congratulate them on their nuptials last April.

“Obviously it’s great news and we will be welcoming the next heir to the throne,” said Mayor of Carrick Alderman Billy Ashe.

“As regards an official letter of congratulations, we may do something along those lines at a later date; at the moment it is early stages and we wish William and Kate the best.”

The announcement by the couple has created a buzz around the borough, which joined in their wedding day celebrations with a series of parties and events.

Members of Windsor Residents’ Association in Whitehead, who planted a rosebush commemorating the wedding last year, expressed their delight at the development.

“We had a meeting on Monday night and everyone was delighted to hear the news; we may well have another rose bush to plant in the baby’s honour when he or she arrives!” said the association’s Helen Sloan.
