He visited staff at Coleraine High School last week following his appointment.

The Interim Board has also been working on a wide range of other elements of the plan for the new school, including the name, uniform, motto and crest.

There has been consultation with pupils, parents, teachers, non-teaching staff, governors and former pupils on these issues and details will be shared by the Interim Board when they have been finalised.

Speaking about his appointment, Dr Carruthers added: “I am delighted to have been confirmed as Principal Designate of the new school and can assure everyone of my determination to deliver on the vision of a new high-achieving school which offers its pupils every curricular and extra-curricular opportunity to excel academically and to fulfil their potential in and out of the classroom.”
