They urged people to report any suspicious activity to them on their non emergency number 101.

One woman said that she was travelling past the Glen on Sunday, when her car was pelted by potatoes as she drove under the bridge on the Mill Road, near the Glen.

“I was travelling back from Crumlin on Sunday evening around 7pm and as my car was coming under the bridge at the Glen that it came under attack,” she said.

“At first I thought it was ice that had hit the window but later found out it was raw potatoes. I just heard two thuds at my windows. Actually I thought the window was going to come in and I ducked.

“Some people are just sick. They are getting kicks out of watching people panic or crashing their cars.

“Seriously this needs to be addressed. Luckily, we were OK though a little bit shook up. Just think of how an elderly person might have reacted. Another driver pulled in to see if there was any damage but thankfully tehre was none.”

Mr Burns said, “These attacks are really worrying. It is so dangerous. It is no joke to see drivers panic like that.”
