Carson tops the poll

Edward Carson was the most significant unionist leader of the 20th century, according to respondents to our recent online poll.

The iconic leader received 103 votes (36 per cent).

The late Ian Paisley received 81 votes (29 per cent).

Terence O’Neill received 60 votes (21 per cent).

Surprisingly, James Molyneaux (14 votes) received more than the first Prime Minister of Northern Ireland, James Craig (seven votes).
