Cash boost for church group

A BIG-HEARTED Magheramason businessman has made a difference to the members of Leckpatrick and Dunnalong Luncheon Club, by fundraising to help the group keep running.

Times are tough for small community groups in the current economic climate, and many have lost access to funding, so any donations they recieve are very welcome. And so it is with the Luncheon Club, who have thanked John Allen at the Costcutter supermaket in Magheramason, for raising 300 for them through the Making a Difference scheme.

A cheque for 300 was formally presented to Sadie McMorris, Walter Barnett and Robert Vaughan who are some of the Luncheon Club members on Thursday at the shop, by Linda and John Allen.

Making A Difference is a relatively new charity that was launched to help independently-run local stores to add value in their communities through donations to local charities or good causes, like football teams, hospices or in nthis instance a church-based group developed to help combat isolation among older people in the community.

The scheme is truly local, as money by local shop owners or proprietors - through the sale of specific products in their stores - is then paid to the charity or cause by the Making A Difference Locally charity.
